Camel Group Co., Ltd. (Shanghai Stock Exchange: 601311.SH) has been selected for a pre-development project with a major European automotive manufacturer for its 12V sodium-ion battery business. The project brings Camel Group’s 12V sodium-ion battery technology into the OEM’s pre-development and validation process for next-generation low-voltage battery applications.
The project builds on Camel Group’s engineering development of cylindrical sodium-ion battery samples and its established small-batch production capabilities for sodium-ion battery products. It also represents an important step in the company’s overseas R&D collaboration in next-generation low-voltage battery technology, following the adoption of Camel Group’s 12V lithium-ion batteries by major European automakers.

The European OEM involved in the project is part of a globally recognized automotive group that is actively advancing its electrification and vehicle platform strategies. As an important component of vehicle electrical architecture, the low-voltage auxiliary battery is being considered as part of the technology development and validation process for next-generation electric vehicle platforms.
European automotive manufacturers are facing increasingly demanding requirements associated with low-temperature operating conditions, evolving battery regulations and the automotive industry’s decarbonization efforts. These factors are driving continued exploration of alternative technologies for low-voltage battery systems.
Sodium-ion batteries are attracting growing attention in automotive applications due to characteristics including resource availability, low-temperature performance and cycle-life potential. As vehicle electrical architectures continue to evolve, sodium-ion technology is being evaluated as one of the potential next-generation solutions for automotive low-voltage applications.
With more than four decades of experience in low-voltage batteries, Camel Group has developed a multi-technology product portfolio spanning conventional lead-acid, EFB, AGM, 12V lithium-ion and 12V sodium-ion batteries.
In sodium-ion technology, Camel Group has completed the engineering development of cylindrical sodium-ion battery samples and established small-batch production capabilities for its sodium-ion battery portfolio. These capabilities provide a foundation for product development, testing and validation in collaboration with automotive customers.
Camel Group is also the lead proposing organization for the international standard proposal 12 V Sodium-ion Batteries for Automotive Start-Stop Applications. The proposal was unanimously approved by IEC/TC21 and has formally entered the international standardization process.
The standardization initiative and the European OEM pre-development project reflect the company’s continued efforts to develop sodium-ion battery technologies for automotive low-voltage applications and to align its technology development with evolving international automotive requirements.
The European OEM project provides an opportunity for further validation of Camel Group’s sodium-ion battery technology, product adaptability and compliance capabilities under European automotive requirements.
The automotive low-voltage battery industry has evolved through successive technology generations, from conventional lead-acid batteries to AGM and 12V lithium-ion batteries. As vehicle electrification and electrical architectures continue to develop, sodium-ion batteries are receiving increasing attention for their potential in areas such as resource availability, low-temperature performance, cycle life and safety.
Camel Group will continue to advance sodium-ion battery technology and engineering applications while deepening collaborative R&D with automotive manufacturers in China and overseas markets. The company will focus on developing low-voltage battery solutions with strong adaptability, safety and stable performance under diverse operating conditions, supporting the evolving needs of global automotive applications.
